Alone with God
Are you ready? Willing to choose to be alone with God? Make solitude part of, or a more regular part of, your spiritual practice? How in the world can we do it? Start small. Look for daily minutes of solitude before you worry about hours or days of solitude. The moment you wake up, the cup of coffee when no one else is awake, after everyone has left the office. Find a place. My first place was a picnic table at a park near my apartment. My favorite place is a cabin in the mountains. Unplug. The hardest part about solitude is stepping away from the constant input in our lives. Turn your phone off. Have a sense of humor. Solitude is a gift, not a burden. It takes practice. Prepare your people. Solitude is hard on those around us – those who depend on us and expect us to respond to them.
