In Ruth 3, Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law, devises a plan to secure a future for Ruth. She instructs Ruth to go to Boaz, a close relative of her deceased husband, and lay at his feet while he sleeps. Ruth follows Naomi's instructions, and when Boaz wakes up, he is surprised to find Ruth there. Recognizing her loyalty and virtue, Boaz agrees to marry Ruth and promises to take care of her and Naomi.
