What is it? And why should I dedicate my child? Child dedication is an outward sign of the intentions of a parent’s heart regarding the spiritual training of their child. It is an opportunity to join with our church family, making a public declaration of our faith in Christ and of our need for “divine” help to raise our children. It is an anchor point in our child’s faith and family history, something that parents can refer back to as significant in the child’s faith journey. It is a way to be held accountable between God and others in the body of Christ to use the many ministries offered at the church to assist in the spiritual nurture of our children. And finally, it is a parent’s opportunity to rededicate themselves to Christ. It is for any family and any age of child. Our children are truly a gift from the Lord and it takes His power and grace to raise them. This special time of commitment is offered three times a year (in the winter, Mother's Day or Father's Day–alternating each year, and in the fall). A parents' class, held the week before the dedication service, is required for those who have not previously attended the class at Rose Drive Friends. Contact Maryann Sezaki in the church office for details and to reserve your place in the class and in the dedication service. Download the dedication application here and submit it completed at the class or, if you have previously attended the class, turn it in to the church office (or at the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings) before the class is held. |
